Appel to take “key role” at Carrier Commercial Refrigeration

USA: David Appel is to step down as president of Carrier Refrigeration, a position he has held since 2010, to take “a key leadership role” within Carrier’s Commercial Refrigeration segment.

Appel’s role as Carrier Refrigeration president will be taken by Timothy N White (48), who most recently served as CEO, Onshore Wind Americas for General Electric.

“Carrier’s long-term strategy for the refrigeration business segment is to continue to lead the industry in terms of providing healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent cold chain solutions to our customers,” said chairman and CEO Dave Gitlin.

“Tim is a proven leader who brings a critical skill set to the refrigeration segment with his deep expertise in leading large-scale businesses with electrification, renewable energy and sustainability solutions – all of which are at the heart of the future of our global business,”

White started his career at Hamilton Sundstrand in 1996, becoming director Electric Systems, Power Controls & Sensing Systems on the formation of UTC Aerospace Systems in 2012. He later became president, Electric, Environmental & Engine Systems and then president, Electric Systems before UTC Aerospace Systems and Rockwell Collins combined to form Collins Aerospace in 2018.

In a career spanning over 30 years with Carrier, David Appel (65) has held numerous leadership roles, including MD of Toshiba Carrier UK, vice president of European HVAC Distribution, president of Building Systems & Service EMEA, and president of HVAC EMEA.

“I want to extend my sincere thanks to David for his decade-long leadership of the Refrigeration business,” said Gitlin. “We will continue to lean on his expertise to lead the Commercial Refrigeration business where his long-standing knowledge and focus on strategic customer-centric execution will drive operational efficiencies and deliver best-in-class financial performance.”
