Copeland to invest US$60m in India facilities

Copeland’s Atit factory (Emerson sold its interests in the Copeland business in June)

INDIA: Copeland is to spend US$60m on the expansion of its Indian manufacturing facility in Atit and the construction of a new global R&D centre in Pune.

These expanded India facilities will provide for the addition of an advanced scroll compressor line catering to both the domestic market and Copeland’s key international markets in the region.

The investments will expand Copeland’s existing Pune manufacturing facility by an additional 7,350m2 over the next five years and the addition of a 15,000m2 R&D centre focused on advancing Copeland’s climate solutions for its customers.

The addition of Copeland’s scroll compressors to the manufacturing line up in India will advance cooling and refrigeration technology deployments for its customers based in the country.

“These investments will establish India as a leading scroll compressor manufacturing and innovation hub,” said Sandeep Gupta, Copeland India’s vice president and MD. “We are investing in India’s economic and sustainable future by supporting the India Prime Minister’s vision of Make in India and its aspiration to be a world-class manufacturing hub.”

Copeland CEO Ross B Shuster added: “These planned investments will enable us to increase production capacity and reduce lead times for our customers in the region while supporting India’s energy and environmental goals.”

Earlier this year, Copeland advised that its CRi reciprocating compressor production in Reynosa, Mexico, would be relocated to the Atit facility. The production of CR, CS, and CF models relocated to the India factory will eventually satisfy all US, North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia demands for these products.
