Customs stop more LPG tank smuggling attempts

POLAND: Polish customs officers have intercepted further attempts to smuggle refrigerant across the border from Ukraine in vehicle LPG tanks.

Earlier this month, the Podkarpacie KAS announced the seizure of R404A in an LPG gas tank. The  customs and fiscal service has now revealed that more refrigerant has been detected being smuggled in a similar way in recent days.

In recent days, further inspections at Korczowa, near the border with Ukraine, have found three vehicles fitted with LPG gas cylinders in the boot being filled with illegal refrigerant. A total of 140kg of R404a and R134a were discovered, valued at PLN25,000 (€5,752) at local prices.

The vehicles have been seized and criminal and fiscal cases were initiated against three people. Over PLN10,000 (€2,300) was seized as part of the penalties.
