Daikin forms Taiwan joint venture

MALAYSIA/TAIWAN: Daikin Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the Daikin subsidiary responsible for business in Southeast Asia and Oceania, has formed a joint venture for large commercial HVAC equipment in Taiwan.

The new company, Daikin (Taiwan) Air Conditioning Systems, has been established with Daikin’s Taiwanese distributor Ho Tai Development Co and Taiwanese industrial HVAC equipment manufacturer Leading Electric & Machinery Co. 

The venture was started with capital of JPY800m ($5.1m). Daikin Malaysia holds 51% of shares, Ho Tai Development 34% and Leading 15%.

To commemorate commencement of operations of the JV, an opening ceremony was held on January 21 at the production facilities in Changhua County, Taiwan.

Established in 1981 and with headquarters in New Taipei City, Leading manufactures and sells chillers, AHUs and heat pumps and boasts an impressive track record for delivering solutions in the semiconductor market.

Ho Tai was established in 1963 and has been Daikin distributor since 1992 selling residential and commercial air conditioners. In 2017, it began sales of large commercial HVAC equipment.

The joint venture seeks to combine Daikin’s core technologies, production know-how and its business foundation in the Taiwanese market with Leading’s strengths with the AHU product and support capabilities developed for the Taiwanese semiconductor market. In this way, the joint venture will work to provide total solutions that combine Daikin’s chillers with AHUs.

The rising global demand for semiconductors is expected to increase demand for HVAC equipment, particularly in Taiwan, where semiconductor manufacturers are concentrated,

In the future, Daikin says it aims to transfer its acquired knowledge on applications for the semiconductor factory market to other regions and expand business to other applications, such as the data centre market.
