Germany establishes ecolabel for heat pumps

GERMANY: Domestic heat pumps can now be awarded Germany’s Blue Angel ecolabel, the independent endorsement of environmentally-friendly products and services.

The federal environment agency Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) played a key role in developing the criteria, which includes the use of natural refrigerants, efficiency requirements and low noise levels.

“The Blue Angel for heat pumps is a good decision-making aid for citizens who are planning to switch to a heat pump and want to make a climate and environmentally friendly choice,” commented DUH MD Jürgen Resch. “It is particularly important that the use of climate-damaging fluorinated refrigerants is completely ruled out These have no place in climate-friendly technology such as the heat pump,” he added.

Germany’s Blue Angel ecolabel has been in use for more than 45 years. It is seen as an independent and credible label that sets stringent standards for environmentally friendly products and services.
