Heat pumps accounted for 26% of business in 2022

GERMANY: A new survey of German plumbing, heating and air conditioning installers has shown that heat pumps accounted for around 26% of their business in 2022.

The  study by Bonn-based EUPD Research amongst 351 German installers confirms that heat pumps, especially air-to-water heat pumps, are playing an increasingly important role in installers’ portfolios.

Following record sales in 2022, 91,500 heating heat pumps were sold in the first quarter of the year – an increase of 110% compared to the same period last year.

Coupling a heat pump to a photovoltaic system was considered in 37% of installations, either as a new install or connecting a new heat pump to an existing PV system. While the combination of these technologies have obvious benefits, bringing the two together can be a challenge for the installers with, reportedly, too many manufacturers with different incompatible systems.
