Internet of Things comes to ac
GERMANY: A Munich-based high-tech start-up has developed a device to control any air conditioning unit with a smartphone app.
Said to work with any remote-controlled air conditioner, the Tado° Cooling device controls the air conditioning via traditional infra-red technology and connects to a mobile phone via wifi internet. The Tado° app allows users to monitor and adjust temperatures and humidity remotely.
Using location services the app also detects when the last person has left the house, and automatically turns down the air conditioning. When any person is on the way home, Tado° begins to pre-cool the house. Tado’s indoor positioning system, based on Bluetooth Low Energy/iBeacon technology, allows the user to move throughout the building without turning on and off the ACs. Tado’s room-to-room feature is said to know what room to cool and when.
The device is available on Kickstarter.com starting from $69.
