Japanese company to produce 1233zd

JAPAN: Central Glass Co is to produce commercial quantities of the new foaming agent and refrigerant HFO1233zd(E).

Based in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Central Glass Co, a glass, chemical and fertiliser manufacturer, says it is to spend the equivalent of €520m on the new production facility. The facility is expected to be completed in 2016.

As well as being used as  a foam blowing agent, 1233zd(E) is also being touted for stationary refrigeration applications, especially as a replacement for R123 in chillers.

Central Glass says it will continue to produce the existing blowing agent HFC-245fa at another of its factories in Kawasaki.
