K-CEP extends funding deadline

USA: The Kigali Cooling Efficiency Programme (K-CEP) has extended the application deadline for funding from its NDC Support Facility for Efficient, Climate-Friendly Cooling (NDC Support Facility).
Launched in January 2020, the NDC Support Facility provides funding and guidance to support developing countries in scaling up efficient, climate-friendly cooling policies and initiatives. Up to $12m is available to organisations to support governments that aim to integrate such cooling solutions into the next round of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent full-year delay of COP26, K-CEP says it felt that extending the application deadline would enable more ambitious proposals to be submitted.
Proposals for NDC Support Facility funding are now due by 11:59pm EDT on September 4, 2020. Successful applicants will then be announced in mid-November 2020, with funding being contingent on the submission of enhanced NDCs (or another official public document) that details new cooling ambitions.
While it is assumed that countries are still required to submit their enhanced NDCs by year-end 2020, some countries may delay the submission of their NDCs until 2021 as they face ongoing disruption from Covid-19. Because of this, a second round of applications for 2021 may be announced later this year to encourage and support increased ambition.
