Koura to distribute Chemours’ R454B in US

USA: Refrigerant manufacturer Koura is to distribute the lower GWP R410A replacement R454B in the US market.

Commercially produced by Chemours, R454B is an A2L refrigerant, a blend of 68.9% R32 and 31.1% 1234yf, with a GWP of 466.

It is designed for use in new HVAC equipment, including residential, light commercial, and commercial positive displacement; DX chillers and air conditioning; window units and portable AC; heat pumps and chillers; mini-split, multi-split and ducted-split units; and packaged terminal air conditioners.

“Chemours is committed to helping the HVAC industry transition to lower GWP solutions,” said Shawn Mccloskey, Chemours’ Americas senior director of thermal & specialized solutions. “Given the strong market adoption, this agreement will help deliver reliable supply and quality throughout the equipment lifespan.”

R454B has been adopted by a large number of equipment manufacturers in Europe and, in January, Chemours announced its availability for North American customers.

Koura had previously announced its own plans for an R410A replacement at the Chillventa exhibition in 2022. R468C was presented as an A2L blend of 42% R32, 52% R1234yf and 6% R1132a. This combination would give the refrigerant a lower GWP than R454B of around 286.
