MHI wins largest district cooling order

DUBAI: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) is said to have signed a deal with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to supply chillers totalling 100,000TR for district cooling projects.

Said to be the largest order of its kind, the deal with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems for its advanced water-cooled centrifugal chillers will enable Empower to double its number of chillers to a total cooling capacity of 200,000TR over the next two years.

Empower will start using the new units in its plants under construction to serve residential, commercial, health, educational and mixed-use projects in Zabeel, Business Bay, Madinat Jumeirah and Dubailand City in Dubai.

Empower was established in 2003 by royal decree and set up as a joint venture between Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and TECOM Group, a member of Dubai Holding. The company claims to be the world’s largest district cooling services provider with 84 plant rooms  and a network of more than 350km, serving more than 140,000 corporate and individual consumers in more than 1,252 buildings.
