Midea merges Clivet and Arbonia businesses

ITALY/SWITZERLAND: Midea has created a new company, MBT Climate, through the merger of its Italian Clivet air conditioning business and the newly acquired climate division of Arbonia.

The move follows the completion of the €760m purchase of Swiss group Arbonia’s climate division. The division includes the system brands Kermi, Prolux, Sabiana and Vasco as well as the focused brands arbonia, Britec, Brugman, Cicsa, PZP, Solius, Superia, Tecna and Termovent.

Clivet, based in northern Italy, was acquired by Midea in 2016.

Stefano Bellò, CEO of Clivet, has been named president of the new company, with Arbonia climate CEO Alexander Kaiss as senior vice president and Midea regional sales director Kobe Peng as vice president.

“Midea will continue to invest in the existing sites, employees and research and development departments of Clivet and Arbonia climate,” the company said in a statement.

When the acquisition was first announced last year, Midea described the combination of Clivet with Arbonia climate division would create a European leader for climate solutions.

The combined group will benefit from a complementary product portfolio, an existing dealer and installer network, supply chain efficiencies as well as a strategic alliance with Midea Group.
