New Daikin controller wins design award
17th October 2025
JAPAN: A new AC controller, set for European release, is one of three Daikin products to have received 2025 Good Design Awards from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion.
Scheduled for release next year, the new commercial wired remote control combines a touch panel with physical buttons on the bottom of the unit, making it easy for even first-time users to understand the operating procedures.
The interface for adjusting the temperature and airflow settings uses icons that evoke the controls, rather than language, for intuitive operation. Even when the remote control’s LCD screen is turned off during sleep mode, the LCD colour allows users to see the operating status at a glance. The unit’s exterior features a linear design and will be available in two colours, black and white, to blend in with a variety of architectural spaces, including hotels and offices.
The other winning products to receive awards were the Ice Cool Spot rest area installed at the Osaka-Kansai Expo, and the Air Creator air conditioner and air purifier brand for its Southeast Asian home retail business.
Founded in 1957, the Good Design Award is Japan’s only comprehensive design evaluation and recommendation system, and is a global design award with participation from many companies and organisations both in Japan and overseas. This year there were 1,619 Good Design Award recipients, selected from 5,225 entries.
