Power converter will electrify diesel reefers

FRANCE: Carrier Transicold is to unveil a power solution that transforms high-voltage direct current from a tractor’s battery into the alternating current needed to operate a refrigeration unit.

The eCool-Drive will electrify existing diesel refrigeration units and, according to Carrier Transicold enable seamless connection between any refrigerated semi-trailer and a 100% electric towing vehicle.

The new concept will be presented at Solutrans 2025 at Lyon EUREXPO next month.

Carrier Transicold says that the eCool-Drive has been co-developed with leading commercial heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers to ensure optimal integration with electric tractor chassis across both low- and high-voltage platforms.

The 20kW eCool-Drive module is compatible with Carrier Transicold’s range of Vector units and all semi-trailers that support electrification. Its flexible integration capabilities offer fleet managers significant freedom to configure and optimise their vehicle fleets according to operational needs. It electrifies existing diesel refrigeration units, enabling fleets to upgrade to electric operation without replacing current equipment.

Compliant with R10 (electromagnetic compatibility) and R100 (high-voltage safety) standards, eCool-Drive features galvanic insulation to enhance system safety, efficiency and reliability.
