Nidec plans new Embraco compressor factory in India

JAPAN/INDIA: Nidec has announced a 55,000m2 factory in India for the production of its Embraco-brand residential and commercial refrigeration compressors.

Located in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), in the state of Maharashtra, the new $120m factory will also manufacture electronic components. Boasting an annual production capacity of 6 million units, the new plant is set to begin operations in the second half of 2026.

Once fully operational, the facility is expected to create between 750 and 1,000 direct jobs, strengthening the local workforce and fostering its technological expertise in refrigeration solutions.

“This investment marks a key milestone in our strategy to grow and strengthen our business across international markets,” commented Nidec Global Appliance president Alberto Casnati. “India’s refrigeration market is expanding rapidly, in step with the country’s strong economic momentum. This new facility will allow us to better meet local demand with high-efficiency, locally produced solutions for both the household and commercial sectors.”

The new plant will focus on producing four compressor series – ES and EL fixed-speed models and FMS and VLT variable-speed units – as well as inverters.

“By establishing a footprint in India, we aim to support the domestic refrigeration sector and strengthen the local supply chain. At the same time, this facility has the potential to become our regional export hub, further reinforcing the Nidec leadership in the global refrigeration industry,” Casnati added.

This latest announcement follows Nidec’s recent acquisition of Chinese scroll compressor manufacturer Changzhou Xecom Energy Technologies. This plant will be the sole source for Embraco scroll compressors and support its move into the air conditioning and heat pump market.

The Xecom business, now renamed Nidec Scroll Technology, currently operates two production lines and has an annual production capacity of 150,000 compressors.
