Philippines customs seizes R507 shipment

PHILIPPINES: Customs authorities in the port of Cebu have seized 300 cylinders of the high GWP refrigerant R507 that did not have the necessary importation clearance.

R507 is a replacement for R502 and R22 in low and medium temperature refrigeration with a GWP of 3985. Although legal in the Philippines, it must be covered with pre-shipment importation clearance prior to its entry into Philippine territory.

The Philippines Bureau of Customs (BOC) was recently in receipt of five Neutronics Ultima ID Refrigerant Analysers from UNIDO, the United Nations agency assisting countries in economic and industrial development.

The donation is designed to assist the Philippines in its HCFC phase-out management plan and boosts the Bureau’s capabilities in monitoring and inspecting refrigerant shipments, particularly in detecting adulterated refrigerants.

The equipment has been deployed to the central office of the Enforcement and Security Service-Environmental Protection and Compliance Division, the Manila International Container Port, and the ports of Manila, Cebu and Davao.
