R448A makes retail landfall in Indonesia

INDONESIA: Honeywell’s Solstice N40 (R448A) refrigerant has been adopted by supermarket retailer Papaya Fresh Gallery for use in its stores across Indonesia.

In the first installation of the refrigerant in Indonesia, Papaya plans to work with Honeywell and Japanese commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturer Fukushima Galilei to retrofit the R404A refrigeration systems in its stores across the country.

Solstice N40 is an ASHRAE A1 (non-flammable) refrigerant with GWP of 1273, far lower than R404A’s GWP of 3922.

Using the lower GWP R448A is also expected to help Papaya improve its refrigeration system energy consumption by 10% compared to its current system design.

Since its release in 2015, Honeywell claims that more than 30,000 stores around the world have adopted Solstice N40.

“We choose Solstice N40 because globally it is the supermarket industry’s most widely accepted, lowest GWP, and nonflammable replacement for legacy HFCs,” said Ichihara Kazuo, director of Papaya Fresh Gallery.
