Viessmann announces US cold storage acquisition

GERMANY/USA: Viessmann Refrigeration Solutions has announced its acquisition of a majority stake in BMIL Technologies, a North-Carolina-based refrigerated warehouses and cold storage company.

While Viessmann has announced the acquisition now, the deal is thought to have been in place since April, the month in which Carrier acquired Viessmann’s Climate Solutions business.

Founded in 2009, BMIL focuses on heavy commercial and light industrial refrigeration, cold rooms and different equipment solutions. This includes walk-in coolers and freezers, refrigerated buildings, doors, blast chillers, mortuary systems, coils, condensing units, evaporators, air handlers, multi compressors, fluid coolers and dehumidifiers.

Viessmann says that the acquisition will accelerates its transition towards natural refrigerant solutions for clean and cold rooms in the North American market.

“We see high growth potential in the North American market where the transition to the natural refrigerant is expected to accelerate,” said Viessmann Refrigeration Solutions CEO Frank Winters. “We are looking forward to seizing further opportunities to enlarge our positive impact, especially for food services, high-tech, and industrial applications,” he added.

Viessmann’s cold room business includes all related sales entities across Europe as well as Viessmann Technologies and the production site Viessmann Kühlsysteme, both based in Hof (Germany).

The acquisition of BMIL is also said to strengthen the global ecosystem of the Viessmann Group and fits into its international partnerships with Priva, a Dutch building automation and vertical farming specialist, and Spanish refrigeration equipment manufacturer Intarcon.
