Voltas to build US$60m air conditioning factory

INDIA: Air conditioning manufacturer Voltas has broken ground on a new US$60m factory in Tamil Nadu.

Management of the company performed the ceremony of Bhoomi Pujan – the traditional Indian construction blessing – on the proposed new facility last Wednesday (May 26).

The construction of the new manufacturing facility, the company’s fifth, will occupy over 150 acres in Madharpakkam in the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. It will initially manufacture room air conditioners and will complement the company’s existing RAC facility in Pantnagar.

The factory is expected to be fully operational within the current fiscal year and will create employment for approximately 1500+ workers.

Founded in 1954, Voltas is part of the Tata Group and in addition to room air conditioners includes air coolers, air purifiers, water dispensers, water coolers, commercial refrigeration and commercial air conditioning products in its portfolio.
