Ammonia heat pump heads emission reductions
16th June 2026
TÜRKIYE: A GEA ammonia heat pump installed at the Türk Tuborg brewery in İzmir has achieved a 7.4% decrease in CO2 emissions over its first nine months of operation.
The system, which became fully operational at the beginning of 2025, achieved savings of 3,723,947kWh of thermal energy in its first nine months of operation, corresponding to approximately 6.8% of the total heat energy used in the wort production process.
In addition, by reducing the load on the brewery’s cooling towers, 8,550m³ of water was saved over the same period.

The technology directly supports Türkiye’s net-zero target for 2053 and complies with the new climate law, which mandates emissions reporting and reduction measures.
Türk Tuborg, licensing and distribution partners with Carlsberg, has been operating from its Izmir site since 1969. Combining malt production and beer bottling, Türk Tuborg is Türkiye’s only fully integrated brewery with an annual production capacity of 36,000 tonnes of malt and over 700 million litres of beer.
