Daikin introduces first domestic R290 heat pump

BELGIUM: Daikin Europe has announced availability of the Altherma 4 H, its first range of residential heat pumps with R290 (propane) refrigerant.

First announced last year, today’s launch promises a range of units in 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14kW capacities in single- and three-phase.

The Daikin Altherma 4 H is said to provide hot water up to 75°C and can operate down to -28°C. It is rated A+++ for space heating and up to A+ for domestic hot water

The largest 14kW unit claims a heating output of 13.3kW even at an ambient temperature of -7°C, with a leaving water temperature setting of 55°C.

According to Daikin, this makes it the best performing residential heat pump of its kind currently available.

Noise levels are said to be down to just 28dBA at 3m.

Daikin has included a number of safety features such as a gas separator, factory mounted anti-freeze valves, sealed switchbox and gas sensor with automatic fan operation.

The units employ a microchannel heat exchanger to reduce the refrigerant charge to approximately 1-1.25 kg.

A new, intuitive interface simplifies heat pump setup and are prepared for connectivity, allowing installers to perform remote parameter settings without needing an on-site visit. End users can monitor the unit’s energy consumption and adjust home temperature using the Daikin Onecta app.

All Daikin’s residential heat pumps, including the Altherma 4 H, are designed and made in Europe. The outdoor units are produced in Daikin’s new factory in Lodz, Poland, while the indoor elements of the heat pump system are produced in the Czech Republic and Germany.

Installer training

Daikin is backing the launch with extensive installer training programmes to cover installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair.
