Mitsubishi AC includes new energy efficient vertical heat exchanger

JAPAN: Mitsubishi Electric has included its recently developed high performance vertical aluminium flat tube (VFT) heat exchanger in a new series multi-air-conditioner outdoor unit.

First announced in November, Mitsubishi claimed that the design of the new VFT heat exchanger could provide a 40% increase in heat pump air conditioner performance.

The design is said to combine small-diameter flat tubes, arranged vertically and very compactly, along with a high-performance refrigerant distributor with a double-tube structure for more even refrigerant distribution. In addition, with around 20% smaller internal volume than conventional aluminium horizontal flat tube heat exchangers, it also allows for reduced refrigerant charges.

Mitsubishi Electric says that the new VFT will be included in 15 new R32 models in its Grand Multi series of multi-air conditioner outdoor units to be released in Japan in September.

The new units are also equipped with a new fan shape and a newly designed housing to further improve energy efficiency. The 8hp unit, for instance, is said to achieve a COP of 4.55.
