R1234ze refrigerant oil for screw compressors

GERMANY: Specialty chemicals company Lanxess is offering its synthetic ester lubricant Everest ESR 220 for use in HVACR systems using R1234ze.

The patented Everest ESR 220, developed through a collaboration with a leading OEM and under a US Department of Energy (DOE) grant, is said to have been approved and used today by several leading global manufacturers.

It is said to address the critical needs for a lubricant that works effectively with R1234ze refrigerant in screw compressors. It can also be used with R515B.

“In several instances, the commercial lubricants used with HFC refrigerants no longer worked with R1234ze,” claims said Lanxess technology manager Ed Hessell.

Screw compressors are used in numerous commercial and industrial applications such as HVAC systems for industrial and commercial buildings, process cooling in the manufacturing industry, and industrial refrigeration. They are also an ideal choice for industrial heat pumps – a market expected to grow at more than 15% per annum until 2030.

Seamless performance is said to be ensured in large capacity cooling/heating applications for industrial processes, large buildings, data centres and district heat transfer.

Synthetic esters offer thermal and chemical stability, reducing maintenance needs and extending the service life of refrigeration systems. It is formulated to reduce friction and wear in the compressor, contributing to lower operational costs, a reduced carbon footprint and long equipment life.
