Sensor can distinguish human behaviour

JAPAN: Mitsubishi Electric has developed a thermal sensor which can distinguish between humans and other heat sources and identify specific human behaviour.

The Mitsubishi Electric Diode InfraRed sensor (MelDIR) is designed for applications in security, heating, ventilation and air conditioning and smart buildings.

To be launched on November 1, the MelDIR is said to be able to identify specific human behaviour, such as walking, running or raising hands. It also delivers high-pixel, high-thermal-resolution images using thermal diode infrared sensor technology that Mitsubishi Electric developed for the Alos-2 Japanese satellite launched in 2014.
