York large capacity chiller for R1234ze(E)

USA: Johnson Controls has launched the York YK-CP large capacity centrifugal chiller optimised for R1234ze(E).

Available in 2,000 to 3,000TR, the YK-CP is said to deliver high performance in a footprint 22% smaller than other chillers using low-pressure refrigerants. It can be equipped with an optional variable-speed drive for operational savings of up to 30% compared to conventional chillers.

An evolution of Johnson Controls’ high-efficiency YK-EP centrifugal chiller, the YK-CP is claimed to offer real-world efficiencies as low as 0.15kW/ton (23.4 COP). This is partly attributed to the system’s economiser and heat exchangers that use JCI’s proprietary, falling film evaporator design that requires up to 40% less refrigerant charge than conventional chiller designs.

It can also operate at ambients as low as 45ºF (7.2ºC), reducing instantaneous energy consumption by as much as 50%.

In addition to high-efficiency operation, the YK-CP features the OptiView control panel with updated software, which JCI says makes it easier than ever to use.

The YK-CP is configured to optimize a large facility’s cooling needs. Designed with modularity in mind, the YK-CP has many different sizes of shell sets and can be equipped with different heat exchanger lengths.

The chiller can be ordered to deliver the exact capacity required, with a variety of options including heat exchangers, gears and open-drive motors.
