Epta workers to strike over pay

UK: Workers at commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturer Epta in Bradford are set to strike this month over low pay.

According to the Unite union, around 70 of its members have voted for industrial action after rejecting a pay offer of 4%. Unite claims that the workers are paid barely above the minimum wage, despite undertaking skilled work.

The workers will take extensive strike action across the second half of this month on October 15, 17, 21, 23, 29 and 31.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Our members are no longer prepared to accept low pay. They undertake skilled work and yet are paid barely above the minimum wage. EPTA should be ashamed of the manner it is treating its loyal workforce.”

The company supplies a number of major supermarkets including Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons and the Co-op.

Epta has been approached for comment.
