Orlando Rawlings with his Medallion for Excellence in recognition of his efforts at WorldSkills

UK: Orlando Rawlings, the UK’s refrigeration and air conditioning representative at WorldSkills in Kazan, was awarded a Medallion for Excellence for his efforts in the competition.

The young engineer may have missed out on the main medal positions but his accumulation of 700 points in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning skills event qualified him for a Medallion for Excellence, given to competitors “who are judged to have reached the international standard in their skill”.

The WorldSkills 2019 awards ceremony last night, in front of 45,000 spectators at the Kazan Arena Stadium in Russia, recognised the efforts of more than 1,300 young professionals from 63 countries, competing in 56 skills. Gold in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning went to Russia’s Aleksandr Leushin and Korea’s Ju-Hwan Go. Australia’s Patrick Brennan won the Bronze Medal.

Orlando Rawlings is an apprentice with Daikin UK and a student at the Grimsby Institute.
