Scheme to aid access to MCS certification

UK: EDF has partnered with Daikin UK with a scheme to help boost heat pump installs by enabling installers without MCS certification to access the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
EDF Heat Pumps, the installation subsidiary of energy supplier EDF Energy, has launched HPIN Direct as an umbrella scheme to make heat pump installation accessible for thousands of installers across the UK.
According to EDF, one of the issues suppressing heat pump sales is that many smaller installers lack MCS certification, so are locked out of accessing the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). MCS certification, it argues, takes time and is costly, making it hard to justify especially for smaller installers.
HPIN Direct removes this barrier. EDF Heat Pumps says the scheme will take care of the design and commissioning of heat pump systems, as well as MCS certification and funding applications for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme – all with no monthly or annual subscription fees.
To make the process of designing, securing funding, installing and commissioning heat pumps as easy as possible, EDF Heat Pumps has partnered with Daikin UK, to offer simple bundle pricing for the heat pump, cylinder and controls.
Describing the scheme as “an exciting opportunity for the industry”, EDF Heat Pumps MD Clayton Browne said: “We often hear there are not enough installers for the demand in heat pumps. With HPIN Direct, we are changing this, opening the door so that we can get thousands more installers trained and installing heat pumps.”
