Mitsubishi and Bitzer form joint venture

ITALY/GERMANY: Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics & IT Cooling Systems (MEHITS) has formed a joint venture with German compressor manufacturer Bitzer focused on developing compressors for applied HVAC and IT cooling systems.

The new company, Bitzer MEHITS Advanced Solutions GmbH, will be based at Bitzer’s factory in Rottenburg am Neckar, Germany. Bitzer will hold the majority stake in the new company.

The deal will allow Bitzer and MEHITS, which specialise in applied climate solutions for comfort, process, and IT cooling, to combine their expertise and resources – with the aim of developing even more targeted solutions for MEHITS customers.

The companies, who have worked together for more than 25 years, say that by combining their technologies and expertise, the joint venture will deliver highly efficient products optimised for global markets.

Agreeing the deal (left to right): Christian Wehrle (Bitzer CEO), Wataru Tsuruta (MEHITS CEO), Rainer Große-Kracht (Bitzer CTO), Gianmarco Gianesello (MEHITS general manager and purchasing director) and Frank Hartmann (Bitzer CFO)

MEHITS is already using Bitzer compressors in some of its applied HVAC and IT cooling products for overseas markets, and claims that the new joint venture will enable it to unify the development processes to  ensure that the compressors are fully optimised for related MEHITS products, improving efficiency and accelerating market introduction.

“This step allows us to work even more closely together and jointly advance the efficiency of integrated system technologies,” said Bitzer CEO Christian Wehrle.

Wataru Tsuruta, CEO of MEHITS, added: “Pro-in-house compressor technologies are crucial to meeting our evolving requirements.”
