Calculating air curtain benefits
3rd September 2026
BELGIUM: Eurovent has launched an online tool designed to help legislators, shop owners, and building professionals assess the effectiveness of air curtains.
According to Eurovent, the new Air Curtain Calculator will foster a better understanding of their potential impact on energy use and indoor comfort.
When correctly selected and applied, Eurovent insists that air curtains can contribute to reducing unwanted heat transfer, maintaining indoor conditions and improving the energy performance of buildings. It argues that an incorrectly selected or installed unit may not provide the expected level of protection against air exchange and heat transfer.
The new calculator is said to provide users with a straightforward way to estimate the air curtain energy savings by entering relevant information about the opening and the surrounding conditions.
The tool has been designed to give a quick estimate as to the savings that can be realised by just having an air curtain unit installed, whilst having an advanced mode that lets the user understand the real impact one air curtain can have versus another.
Michael Hims, chairperson of Eurovent’s air curtains and fan heaters product group, said: “This tool has been created from testing carried out by TNO for Eurovent member Binnenklimaat, who have kindly shared their results with us. By adding climate data from Copernicus, we have been able to extend the tool’s geographical reach to cover all European countries.”
The Air Curtain Calculator can be downloaded free-of-charge from the Eurovent website.
