Capacity doubled at Nantes heat pump plant
21st March 2024FRANCE: Johnson Controls has doubled the size and capacity of its primary European manufacturing facility in Nantes, France, for York chillers and heat pumps.
The expansion includes two buildings, each serving a specific purpose. The first building spans over 500m2 and houses a cutting-edge paint booth and a new electrical trolley with 70T capacity and autorotation.
The second building is 1000m2 and 20m high, is fully dedicated to the assembly of large heat pumps, such as Turbo M units from 6 to 20MW, typically used in district heating. It is designed to accommodate new cranes weighing 100T and spanning 24m and is fully insulated to optimise working conditions for employees.
In line with Johnson Controls’ commitment to environmental responsibility, part of the plant is equipped with a white roof and large roof lights to harness clean energy and reduce the plant’s carbon footprint. It is also said to offer best practice thermal and acoustic performance with openings designed to allow maximum natural light.
“This expansion in Nantes is a significant milestone for Johnson Controls, enabling us to meet the growing demand for our market-leading technologies while paving the way toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient future,” commented Benthe Klokkerholm, vice president, manufacturing operations HVACR, EMEA.
Johnson Controls’ facility in Nantes was established in 1964 and now has more than 20 years’ experience in large-scale heat pumps. It is the company’s third largest industrial heat pump plant worldwide after Wuxi, China, and San Antonio, USA.
