Danfoss opens microchannel heat exchanger customisation lab

MEXICO: Danfoss can now offer customised microchannel heat exchangers to North American OEMs with the opening of a sample shop and product evaluation material lab on its Monterrey, Mexico, campus.
A space where Danfoss engineers can work with customers to develop and test microchannel heat exchangers was seen as a natural fit when Danfoss’ Monterrey heat exchanger production facility was expanded last year. The facility also supports precise and reliable testing for all prototypes.

Coupled with Danfoss engineers’ product expertise, the 1,600ft2 shop features flexible equipment that can process performance samples from 300mm to 1,700mm in height, 300mm to 4,000mm in length and 12mm to 32mm thick, for standard and long-life alloys. Prototypes can be bent into various shapes for different applications, with no size limitations. Danfoss says that the facility can deliver high-quality prototypes reflecting customer requirements, with delivery possible within 3-5 weeks.
The material lab has full qualification capabilities to ensure reliable heat exchanger performance, including the selection of optimal materials for each design. Once the prototype is created, the lab provides corrosion testing and metallographic analysis as well as testing for pressure, fatigue and durability to ensure it meets specific quality, safety and performance standards. When deemed production-ready, it can then be manufactured in larger quantities at the factory.

“The sample shop and material science lab are another example of how we are innovating to serve our customers as they transition to sustainable HVAC technologies,” said Juan Palma, engineering manager of the sample shop and material lab. “With our engineering expertise and state-of-the-art production facility, we are able to collaborate with customers to develop solutions that meet their needs.”
