Faulty dehumidifier recalled

GE Midea DehumidifierLARGEUSA: A GE brand dehumidifier has been recalled after it was found that the compressor could short-circuit and create a fire hazard.

The dehumidifier, made by Chinese manufacturer GD Midea, was sold exclusively through Walmart stores in the USA between March 2010 and December 2010.

label of GE MideLARGEThe recall was actioned after Midea and GE received a report of a fire contained within the dehumidifier unit. No other property damage or injuries have been reported.

This recall involves 30 pint portable GE brand dehumidifiers, model number ADKW30LN with serial numbers beginning AT1, DT1, FT1 or GT1. Around 15,500 units are thought to be affected, manufactured from January 2010 through April 2010.

Consumers are told to immediately stop using the recalled dehumidifiers, unplug them and contact Midea for instructions on returning their recalled dehumidifier for a free repair.
