Goodman recalls 230,000 air conditioners
27th August 2014USA: Goodman has issued a recall on over 230,000 air conditioning units over concerns of a possible fault with its power cord.
The recall involves around 233,500 Amana, Century, Comfort-Aire, Goodman and York International-branded commercial packaged terminal air conditioners and heat pumps.
The recalled units were manufactured in the USA and sold January 2007 through June 2008. They carry serial numbers ranging from 0701009633 through 0804272329. Rated at 230/208V, 3.5kW, the units are commonly installed in hotels, motels, apartment buildings and commercial spaces.
The recall was made after Goodman received five reports of power cords smoking or catching on fire. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using and unplug the air conditioning and heating units and call (800) 366-0339 between 8am and 5pm CT, Monday to Friday, for Amana, Goodman and York International-branded units and (877) 442-4482 from 8am to 5pm ET, Monday to Friday, for Comfort-Aire and Century-branded units.
