Greece subsidises new energy efficient AC and fridges

GREECE: The Greek government is offering subsidies of up to €710 per device for the replacement of domestic air conditioners, refrigerators or freezers with the latest energy efficient models.

From today, Greek households will be able to replace up to three old appliances using subsidies from 30% to 50% of the cost of the devices. The final amount per device ranges from €135 to €710 euros, depending on the type of device that is recycled.

The Recycle – Change Device initiative is expected to cost €150m but is expected to save 209,000MWh per year in energy and reduce CO2 emissions by 126,000 tonnes per year.

It is estimated that more than 380,000 energy-intensive devices will be replaced and recycled, with Greek citizens seeing a reduction in electricity bills of their households from €150 to €300 per year.
