GRIT acquires interest in US company Summit Refrigerants

SPAIN/USA: Barcelona-based Gases Research Innovation & Technology (GRIT), manufacturers of the RS range of refrigerants from UK company Refrigerant Solutions, has acquired an interest in the American company Summit Refrigerants.

Summit Refrigerants offers a full line of refrigerants, is a US EPA-certified refrigerant reclaimer, provides recovery cylinder maintenance for contractors and wholesale distributors, and rents/sells large recovery cylinders. Summit is currently the packager for RS refrigerants in the USA.

The company was founded in 2008 by Steve Trevino and Jeff Carver, who will continue in their current management roles. With headquarters in Houston, Texas, Summit also operates from facilities in Dallas and Baton Rouge.

GRIT was founded in 2001 by Ramón Terrado, a chemical engineer who had worked for over 25 years in companies manufacturing and distributing refrigerants. It is the exclusive producer of RS products in Spain and the authorised commercial channel for most European states and some other overseas countries.

In a statement, GRIT said that the joint venture will enhance Summit’s current processes and allow the entrance of GRIT’s technical expertise into the American market. Immediate plans are said to include significant enhancements to Summit’s current facilities in Houston, allowing it to provide additional services as the US continues its move towards more environmentally sustainable policies.

GRIT started its activity in the USA in 2016 and, in 2018, with the financial support of Moira Capital Partners, GRIT gained the momentum to proceed with a geographical expansion. The joint business plan is designed to more than double Summit’s 2020 volume in the short-term.
