Hanon passes 1 million eCompressor milestone

SOUTH KOREA: Hanon Systems, supplier of components for Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform for electric cars, has passed the production landmark of 1 million electric CO2 compressors.

The milestone for the R744 eCompressors, which are manufactured at Hanon Systems’ Portuguese plant, was achieved just eighteen months after reaching 500,000 units.

Hanon Systems reports that demand for R744 compressors has increased significantly alongside the growth of the European electric vehicle market.

The company claims to have been the first in the industry to design and develop an eCompressor using R744 for automotive climate control systems, but also offers solutions using R290, as well as traditional refrigerants, including R134a and R1234yf.

The Portuguese plant in Palmela, Setúbal, about 25km south of Lisbon, began producing mechanical compressors in 1988 and introduced its first electric compressor in 2009.
