MHI wins two Demand Side Management Awards

JAPAN: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems has received commendations in Japan’s 2022 Demand Side Management Awards for its MSV2 air-cooled heat pump chillers and Aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) system.

The awards are sponsored by the Heat Pump & Thermal Storage Technology Centre of Japan (HPTCJ). They promote the adoption of heat pumps and thermal storage systems and recognise especially outstanding technologies that contribute to power load levelling.

The MSV2 series, which operates on R32 and features an e-3D scroll compressor received the HPTCJ Chairman’s Award in the Machinery & Equipment category.

Launched in Japan at the end of 2019, the MSV2 was highly acclaimed by HPTCJ for its contribution to power load leveling. Because they can be installed in multiple units through modular connection, outstanding energy-saving proposals can be offered to accommodate diverse thermal loads. The e-3D scroll compresses both vertically and horizontally, enhancing efficiency during low loads.

The MSV2 has previously received the 2020 Energy Conservation Grand Prize sponsored by the Energy Conservation Centre, Japan (ECCJ) and supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The company’s initiative to install an ATES system, which takes advantage of 700kW in geothermal heat for the heating and cooling system at its Kobe Works, received the HPTCJ Promotion Award in the Integrated Systems category.

The HPTCJ award marks the system’s third commendation, following receipt of the 2019 Japan Society of Civil Engineers Environmental Award and the 2021 ECCJ Energy Conservation Grand Prize.
