Tewis signs university research deal

Eva Alcón, the rector of Jaume I University, signs the agreement with Tewis Smart Systems CEO Carlos Momplet

SPAIN: Valencia-based CO2 retail refrigeration systems company Tewis Smart Systems has signed a joint “natural” refrigerant systems research contract with Valencia’s Jaume I University.

The project aims to develop new architectures for refrigeration plants that work with CO₂ as a refrigerant. Specifically, it will study and optimise the use of a pressure recuperator in refrigeration cycles. The pressure recuperator is a device that recovers energy from the gas expansion process and reuses it in the operation of the cycle, increasing energy efficiency.

The Thermal Engineering Group of the university, which is dedicated to research in refrigeration, especially in the use of “natural” refrigerants, and in the development of high energy efficiency cycles, will conduct the project. Tewis will provide its experience in the design and construction of refrigeration plants for the commercial and industrial sector.
