US fruit grower agrees $262,971 fine for ammonia violations
14th December 2025USA: A California-based fresh fruit grower, packer and shipper has agreed to pay a penalty of $262,971 for ammonia safety-related violations.
The Delta Packing Company, which uses anhydrous ammonia to provide cooling, will also make significant safety improvements to its facility in Lodi.
In 2021, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) inspected the Lodi facility after an accidental release of anhydrous ammonia resulted in an employee’s death.
The inspection revealed multiple violations of the Clean Air Act, including the Risk Management Programme and the General Duty Clause under that law, as well as the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act.
