Carrier takes to the stage

UK: Hire specialists Carrier Rental Systems has taken to the stage to provide air conditioning for a travelling childrens’ theatre.
The equipment was supplied for Showdome, an inflatable temporary theatre and events space hosting the UK tour of In the Night Garden Live, based on the childrens’ television programme.
The Showdome required an innovative cooling solution to combat the heat from theatrical lighting and the numbers of visitors, staff and performers.
The organisers, Minor Entertainment Ltd, asked Carrier Rental Systems to provide advice on the various options for cooling the auditorium and the connected communal spaces. A detailed plan was developed to deliver the comfort conditions required, taking into account different scenarios for weather conditions and occupancy levels.
The solution included a high-efficiency Carrier 30RQS160 AquaSnap heat pump chiller coupled with two CRS110 air handling units, used to deliver cool air into the Showdome. The chiller supplied water at 5ºC to the air handling units, each of which is capable of delivering up to 10,000m2/hr of conditioned air.
Hot air was extracted at a high level with high velocity extraction fans and ejected to the atmosphere. Cooling was introduced via 600mm flexible ducting and focussed on the auditorium seating and stage area for maximum benefit to visitors and performers.
