Panasonic’s CO2 condenser takes to the road

UK: Panasonic’s CO2 condensing unit is contributing to an innovative mobile refrigeration test trailer for a pioneering UK contractor.

Cooling specialist Greencold had wanted to create a cold room test facility at its premises in Kettering, Northamptonshire, to conduct product testing for its customers for both chill and freeze temperatures.

“However, due to limited space inside our workshop we decided that it would be a better idea to construct a mobile CO2 cooling system in a refrigerated box trailer,” explained Greencold director Simon Andrew. “This could then be parked both on our premises and also taken to our customers site to test their products locally or demonstrate the technology.”

Working with Panasonic, a solution was found by combining the Panasonic units with a suitable air cooler of sufficiently high working pressure.

The Panasonic CO2 units are described as compact and lightweight with low noise levels of 35.5 dB(A) to 36dB(A).

“The Panasonic range has been specifically developed for small to medium capacity applications within the refrigerated retail and food service sectors,” explained Panasonic’s UK sales manager Paul Taylor.

Greencold have also since been able to use their refrigerated trailer as an educational tool, taking it out to customers to prove the effectiveness of the eco-friendly CO2 cooling system. The company has also set up a sister company called QuickFreeze to rent out the branded trailer to customers in the food manufacturing business for events and additional storage.
