Gel-clear pump solves refrigerated cabinet biofilm problems

UK: Gel-clear has launched a condensate pump for supermarket refrigerated display cabinets, which is specifically engineered to eliminate biofilm problems.

Unlike general-purpose condensate pumps, the new UCP700+ is built from the ground up for the supermarket environment — where biofilm buildup, restricted space, and repeated blockages lead to frequent callouts, downtime, and water leaks.

This is the latest product from the award-winning UK manufacturer of the well known Gel-clear condensate drain tablet and other drainage solutions for commercial refrigeration.

Commenting on the launch, Gel-clear MD Paurick Gaughan said that the new UCP700+ was designed to solve real problems in the field. “From biofilm resistance to better sealing and hose performance, every part of the UCP700+ exists because of what we’ve learned on site,” he said.

Advanced Ag+ silver ion technology is applied to all internal wet surfaces to actively inhibit biofilm formation, preventing the blockages, overflows, and failures that plague conventional pumps. The coating is said to prevent biofilm growth and protect float switches and components for up to eight years.

It also incorporates a custom 60-mesh copper biocidal filter that intercepts debris, preventing biofilms and reducing clogging risks.

The UCP700 is designed for fast, secure installation with long-lasting seals and better mechanical reliability. It is also supplied with a 500mm flexi drain connector to allow a fully connected service ‘swing out’, simplifying future maintenance.

The inclusion of a crush-resistant discharge hose ensures that the pump operates more efficiently and with less back pressure — increasing service life.

Built to last, the unit is also designed for remanufacture, with all parts replaceable.

“The real cost of a cheaper pump isn’t the purchase — it’s the failure, callout, and disruption that follows,” added Gaughan. “With the UCP700+, we’re helping contractors and retailers break that cycle and reduce operational costs.”

The UCP700+ is available now from Gel-clear and its approved distributors.
