Trane’s new chiller for R513A

USA: Trane’s new Agility centrifugal chiller is designed as a simple replacement option for tighter spaces and is available with new lower GWP refrigerant R513A.

The water-cooled centrifugal chiller is said to be ideal for customers retrofitting existing space-limited commercial buildings. In addition, it is design optimised for use with R513A and is also available with current generation refrigerant option, R134A.

R513A is a binary mixture of R134a (44%) and R1234yf (56%). It has a GWP of around 630 and carries the ASHRAE safety classification of A1.

Agility is a completely redesigned chiller in the 175-425 ton range with a new and different compressor and heat exchanger. It uses Trane’s latest high efficiency CHIL evaporators that are 25% smaller than other current medium pressure heat exchangers, with a similar reduction in refrigerant charge. It is said to exceed the ASHRAE 90.1-2016 IPLV requirement by over 40%.

The new chillers join Ingersoll Rand EcoWise portfolio of solutions available with next generation, lower GWP refrigerants.

“The redesign makes the Agility chiller line more compact which increases ease of installation, and saves time and money for commercial building owners,” said Donny Simmons, president of the commercial heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) business of Ingersoll Rand “There are thousands of existing buildings that are at or past their expected life. Most of these chillers are less efficient than those available today and in mechanical rooms that are difficult to access.”
