Turbocor now compatible with R513A

DENMARK: Danfoss has expanded its Turbocor TT Series compressors to use the lower GWP refrigerant R513A and added new low lift capabilities.

The compressor manufacturer has announced that all Turbocor TT Series compressors produced starting in December with compressor firmware version 4.1 will be compatible with both R134a and R513A. Existing TT Series compressor revision F models using R134a will be able to be retrofitted to use R513A by simply changing the electronic controllers.

R513A is a binary mixture of R134a (44%) and R1234yf (56%). It has a GWP of around 630 and carries the ASHRAE safety classification of A1.

In addition to the TT Series compressors, Danfoss already offers the Turbocor TG Series compressors that use ultra-low-GWP refrigerant HFO1234ze.

Low lift capabilities

Danfoss has also expanded the operating range of its Turbocor TT Series compressors to support low lift applications such as air-cooled heat pumps, ice storage, and low-temperature process cooling. The low lift operating range allows chillers to start and operate at low condenser water temperatures that are common during cold ambient temperature conditions and gives manufacturers the flexibility to eliminate the use of economisers on chillers.
