Seminar discusses ammonia safety

UK: The safety of ammonia systems comes under the spotlight next month in a special seminar to be held in Grantham.

The British Frozen Food Federation and Food Storage and Distribution Federation (FSDF) have come together with experts in the field to offer guidance to users of ammonia refrigeration systems and provide clarification of their legal responsibilities.

The seminar builds on the publication last year of an updated guidance document – Safe Management of Ammonia Refrigeration Systems – put together by the FSDF, British Engineering Services, the Institute of Refrigeration and other stakeholders, with support from the HSE.

While promoting the excellent properties of ammonia as a refrigerant, the seminar will explain the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 and the implications of non-compliance. It will reveal the HSE’s strategy and concerns, while discussing safe management procedures and emergency arrangements.

The event takes place from 10.00 to 15.00 on May 16 at Belton Woods Hotel, Grantham.

The seminar costs £100.00+VAT for FSDF and BFFF members and £125.00+VAT for non-members.

For more information and to book your places visit the FSDF or BFFF websites.
