Shouksmith maintains family value

RW_Advert2UK: The tradition of the family-run business is to continue at J H Shouksmith with news that David Shouksmith is to become md of the York-based contractor.

David will replace John Miller, who has been managing director since 2002 and is soon to retire following 49 years’ service.  A former president of the HVCA (now B&ES), John will continue as a director of J H Shouksmith until the end of 2014 and will then act as a consultant until the end of 2016. David joined the company in 2005 and was appointed as director of Shouksmith in July 2012.

David is joined by his brother Edward Shouksmith, who has been appointed commercial manager. The brothers are sons of company chairman Richard Shouksmith, and the seventh generation of the family to work for the company.

Edward Shouksmith started his career with Morfitts, a former trading division of J H Shouksmith and is now re-joining the company following time spent working in other organisations in the building services industry and will be mentored by John Miller for the first six months of his appointment.

The family company can trace its history back almost 200 years to its formation in 1919 as one of the first limited liability companies to operate in York.

In 2010 the company acquired KLG Refrigeration to create Shouksmiths’ Refrigeration Division, enabling the company to offer an in-house refrigeration capability to serve its wide client base in the commercial, industrial and domestic sectors. Its subsidiary Morfitts Maintenance Services and Shouksmiths’ Refrigeration Division were subsequently brought together to create Shouksmiths Maintenance and Refrigeration Division, which operates from Leeds.
