13.6 tonnes of illegal refrigerant seized in Treviso

ITALY: Authorities in Italy have intercepted 13.6 tonnes of illegal virgin R404A and R507A of Chinese origin bound for Salerno.
The Guardia di Finanza stopped the articulated lorry, owned by a Polish company, in a motorway service area near Treviso.
Customs documents retrieved from the driver of the truck claimed that the shipment was bound for the French port of Dunkirk, from where it was to be exported by sea to the UAE.
However, the Guardia di Finanza in Treviso found inconsistencies in the documentation. It was found that the shipment originated from a Slovakian customs warehouse and the vehicles satnav indicated that it was actually bound for an address in a town near Salerno in south west Italy.
The use of virgin refrigerant with a GWP of 2500 or more – like R404A and R507A – is prohibited under the European F-gas phase down regulations. Only reclaimed material can continue to be used for servicing equipment.
