Daikin releases R404A replacement in US

USA: Daikin America has announced the availability of test samples of new refrigerant blend R407H for OEMs and R404A and R22 retrofits in the United States.

Daikin says the samples are intended for refrigeration contractors and distributors working on supermarkets, grocery stores, walk in coolers and freezers and mini grocers.

The non-ozone depleting A1 refrigerant has a GWP of 1495 – 62% lower than R404A – and is considered by Daikin as an economical retrofit with limited modifications.A mixture of R32, R125 and R134a, it is said to be compatible with common POE oils.

The news follows the blend’s official product launch in March.

Daikin says that R407H has been submitted for approval to the US EPA SNAP Program as a replacement for ozone-depleting refrigerant R22, and high GWP refrigerants, such as R404A and R507A, which are widely used for supermarket, warehouse, and marine vessel refrigeration equipment.

“Daikin’s 407H was developed to comply to global regulations while allowing for simple and economical retrofits. Additionally, Daikin’s 407H proven track record and efficiency is uniquely positioned to achieve EPA’s GWP targets,” stated Jim McAliney, Daikin America’s EVP-sales & marketing.
