Danfoss acquires Palladio compressors

DENMARK/ITALY: Danfoss has acquired Palladio, the Italian manufacturer of high-efficiency screw compressors.

The acquisition of Palladio Compressors marks a significant expansion of Danfoss’ compressor portfolio, covering applications from light commercial comfort to large-scale process cooling, heating, and refrigeration.

Danfoss Commercial Compressors has been selling Palladio screw compressors in Europe since forming a collaborative partnership with former owners RefPower Srl in 2022. The company will now join the Danfoss Commercial Compressors division.

Over the past two years, Danfoss and Palladio have evaluated technological synergies, particularly in high-lift heat pumps and large cooling applications.

“This acquisition broadens our technological capabilities and reinforces our commitment to decarbonisation across industries. Palladio’s advanced technology complements our portfolio, enhancing our compressor solutions for industrial heat pumps and large commercial and industrial refrigeration,” said Danfoss Commercial Compressors’ divisional president Fabio Klein.

Danfoss maintains that Palladio’s screw technology, addresses the limited offerings of advanced, non-captive screw compressors.

“The screw technology is particularly relevant for middle-range energy intensity applications. When deciding on a suitable compressor for their systems, our customers consider factors such as size, energy intensity, and payback period requirements,” the company said.

“Our screw offering allows us to address this uncovered middle market segment. The newly branded Danfoss Screw range will benefit from increased investment in R&D, production, and sales capacities, ensuring robust capabilities and market presence.”

The Palladio range is currently divided into three series of compact screw compressors. The K1 with integrated liquid-cooled inverter is available in six models, with displaced volumes between 578 and 1134m3/h (4200 rpm). The K2 compact screw range, with displaced volumes between 410 and 810m3/h (50 Hz), is designed for applications with HFO, HFC and “natural” refrigerants. Completing the range is the QUBO compressor with integrated oil separator. The range currently consists of three compressors, but will be completed shortly with the addition of five further models, up to a displaced volume of 380m3/h (50 Hz).
